Meet Louisa Thomas
Louisa Thomas is the girlfriend of NFL player, John Urschel. Louisa Thomas must be certainly a proud NFL girlfriend, her 24-year-old Baltimore Ravens man will begin a PhD in mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this year!
The 6’3”, 305-pound offensive lineman –who started in seven of the Ravens’ 16 games this past season, signed a four-year, $2 million contract with the team in 2014. He was drafted by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Penn State.
Last year, Urschel wrote in the Players Tribune—the athletes-only journal started by former New York Yankee Derek Jeter—about why he continues to play football, given the injury risks and his flourishing career in mathematics. “What my mother and a great majority of my friends, family, and fellow mathematicians don’t understand is that I’m not playing for the money,” he wrote. “I’m not playing for some social status associated with being an elite athlete.”
“I play because I love the game. I love hitting people.”
In 2015, Urschel played in the NFL playoffs for the Ravens while simultaneously (pdf) working on a paper on graph Eigen functions.
But to be able to hang out with the bright Athlete, looking like a model or posting endless photos of yourself partying, just wont do. Louisa Thomas is definitely not the type of NFL WAG we are use to. She is a journalist and author and apparently not very into posting picture of herself to social media like many of the other Wags.
Louisa Thomas is the author of Louisa: The Extraordinary Life of Mrs. Adams. She is also a former Grantland writer -a website named after Grantland Rice and funded by ESPN. Along with blog posts, Grantland publishes long-form stories and in-depth analyses of sports and pop culture. Thomas has worked for the site since its founding in 2011.
Her great grandfather, Norman Thomas, ran for president six times on the socialist ticket. She is a daughter of Osceola and Evan Thomas of Washington. Her father served as the editor at large at Newsweek and a visiting professor of journalism at Princeton. Her mother retired as a lawyer in Washington for the government affairs office of AT&T.
Louisa Thomas who is 34-years-old, was previously married to Justin Reynolds. Accoridng to the NY Times, the couple were married in 2007. The then 25-year-old tied the knot on Martha’s Vineyard.
According to Penguin Press, Louisa’s writing has appeared in the New York Times Book Review, Newsweek, Vogue, the Paris Review Daily, the Washington Post, Slate, and other places. She was formerly on the editorial staff of the New Yorker and a contributing editor at Newsweek. She grew up in Washington D.C., graduated from Harvard University, and lives in New York.
She is also the author of Conscience: Two Soldiers, Two Pacifists, One Family—a Test of Will and Faith in World War I.
